SR 281 - Quincy South - Paving - Complete June 2006

Status

Project was completed on June 3rd, 2006.

The Preservation project paved ten miles of SR 281 between Quincy and Interstate 90.

Why is WSDOT pave SR 281?
This project preserves the existing pavement structure, extends pavement service life, and improves safety by updating striping and installation of recessed pavement markers on the highway center line.

The End Result
This project provides a smoother driving surface and extends the life of the roadway.  it required grinding the existing road surface and overlaying the roadway  with approximately 2-inches of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).

  • Provides a smoother ride.
  • Preserves the pavment for the next 10 to 15 years.
  • Added safety features including center line rumble strips, and recessed pavement markers. 

What is the project timeline?
Construction began April 3rd, 2006 and was completed on June 3rd.

Financial Information

This project went out to bid August 22, 2005. Two bids were opened October 6th.  Contract # 7031 was awarded on October 10th to Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. for $1,474,474.00, 3% under the engineering estimate.

This project was funded through the following sources:

  • Pre-Existing Gas Tax - $2.1 million
  • Total funding from all sources - $2.1 million
