Project Facts
  • This project constructed a pedestrian activated warning system with two advanced flashing beacons.
  • This project included the construction of  ADA compliant sidewalk ramps.
  • Construction began in July and was complete August 7th.

Project Status

This project was complete August 7th, 2007


This Safety Improvement project installed a pedestrian activated warning system in Omak at the intersection of Oak St./Robinson Canyon Rd. and SR 215.  It also included an Electrical Preservation project to rebuild a traffic signal at the intersection of SR 215 and SR 155 in Omak.

Why is WSDOT install a Pedestrian Activated Warning System?
Increased pedestrian protection was needed at this intersection as students from the North Omak Elementary school use it to go to and from school.

The End Result
A pedestrian activated warning system at the intersection of Oak St./Robinson Canyon Rd. and SR 215 now alerts motorists of crossing pedestrians.

Project Benefits
This project improves safety for pedestrians, particularly school children.

What is the project timeline?
The project was advertised for private contractor bids in February, a contract was awarded in March to Colvico Inc. and construction began July 9th and was complete August 7th, two days before the start of the Omak Stampede.

Environmental Protection
No impacts from this project that will adversely affect the environment were identified through the planning and pre construction process.
All environmental laws and guidelines were followed during construction.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Work zone traffic control plans were in effect to protect both workers and motorists during construction.

Will this project impact tribal resources?
No tribal concerns or cultural resource impacts were identified during the planning and pre construction process. 
WSDOT seeks to address the concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in section 106 of The National Historical Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

Financial Information

This project was advertised for private contractor bids in February, 2007 and bids opened on March 15th. On March 19th, contract #7297 was awarded to Colvico, Inc. for $191,858.40, 14% above the engineering estimate.
This project is funded through the following source:

  • Pre-existing gas tax funds - $ 205,000
  • Total funding from all sources - $205,000
