Why is WSDOT
Rehabilitating bridge surfaces and rails?
The bridge, deck surfaces, rails and sidewalks show marked signs of deterioration on Bridges 153/3, 153/4, 153/10, 153/14, and 153/15. Concrete deck surfaces are being repaired. Deck surfaces on four are being overlaid with Hot Mix Asphalt (3,10,14,15). Bridge rails are being repaired on all five. Sidewalks on two (10,14) are being retrofitted with supports.
The End Result
Bridge deck surfaces will be preserved for another 20 years improving safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Project Benefits
- Extends the life of the bridge structures
- Reduces maintenance and cost
- Increases motorist and pedestrian safety

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Renovating the bridge deck, updating guardrail terminals, placing new guardrail along the sidewalks, and retrofitting sidewalks with supports will provide a safer corridor for both motorists and pedestrians. Besides the safety benefits of the project itself, safety for the public and the construction workers is paramount while the work is underway. A comprehensive traffic control plan and a work zone safety plan is in effect to protect travelers and workers.
Will this project impact tribal resources?
No impacts to tribal resources have been identified. However, WSDOT works closely with tribal officials on all projects to identify and minimize adverse impacts to areas of cultural and archeological significance. When applicable, WSDOT addresses any concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commision as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
