Regionwide Guardrail Update 2006

Project Status

Project was completed May 3rd, 2006.

This Preservation, Safety Restoration, project is located on Bray's Rd. in Douglas County and SR 155 in Okanogan County.

Why is WSDOT upgrading guardrail?
Sections of SR 155 and Bray's Rd. warranted installation of additional guardrail to improve traveler safety. 

The End Result
This project reduces the potential for vehicles to run off the roadway and over embankments.

  • Reduced severity of accidents due to a higher level of protection from guardrail.

Construction began April 3rd and was complete on May 3rd, 2006.

Environmental Protection

WSDOT is committed to protecting the environment, and makes every effort to assess and minimize negative impacts from its projects.

All environmental laws and guidelines were strictly followed.  The following are the permits and/or documentation required for is project:

  • Nat. Historic Preservation Act - Section 106
  • NEPA - National Environmental Policy ACT of 1969 
  • SEPA - State Environmental Policy Act of 1971
  • TESC - Temporary Erosion Control Plan

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Safety for the public and the construction workers is paramount while the work is underway.  A comprehensive traffic control plan and a work zone safety plan was implemented to protect travelers and workers.

Will this project impact tribal resources?

This project is located on the Colville Indian Reservation.  A cultural resources survey was conducted prior to construction.

WSDOT seeks to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

Financial Information

Three bids on this project were opened on December 15th, 2005. On December 19th, contract # 7070 was awarded to Frank Gurney Inc. of Spokane for $437,072.56, 5% under the engineering estimate. 

This project is funded through the following sources:

  • Pre-Existing Gas Tax - $540,000
  • Total funding from all sources - $540,000
