I-405 Totem Lake Freeway Station - March 2006

March 28 - Crews set four of nine 128-foot steel bridge girders during a total overnight closure of northbound I-405 in Kirkland. We set the other five girders over the northbound lanes the following night. We plan to set girders over southbound I-405 this summer. These girders form the frame for the new NE 128th bridge.

March 18 - Installing permanent barrier along the southbound I-405 on-ramp from westbound NE 124th Street, using the "slip form" method. The machine pours a special mix of concrete that is stiff enough to stay in place without having to set in molds for days. The machine moves the barrier mold (or form) along the steel framework as it pours the concrete.

March 17 - The new wall at the intersection of NE 128th and Totem Lake Blvd. is complete and crews have backfilled the street area behind it. Building this wall was necessary so we could raise the elevation of the street to meet the height of the new NE 128th bridge.

March 9 - Paving the southbound I-405 exit ramp to NE 124th Street. On the right is newly-built permanent barrier. We're preparing to shift southbound I-405 traffic away from the median, just like we've already done with northbound I-405.

March 6 -
Crews pour concrete to close the gap between the existing southbound I-405 bridge over NE 132nd and the additional width of the bridge.
