I-405 - I-5 to SR 169 Stage 2 Widening

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2006

Project Title & Location

I-405/SR 515 Interchange Improvements (TPA)

Project Description
This project combines Nickel and Transportation Partnership Account components to construct one additional general purpose lane on I-405 in the northbound and southbound directions between SR 167 and SR 169. This project also builds the eastern half of the Lind Avenue/Talbot Road split-diamond interchange at SR 515 (Talbot Road) including a new on-ramp from SR 515 to northbound I-405, and a new off-ramp from southbound I-405 to SR 515.

Contractor/Consultant
HNTB Corporation is the lead consultant of the General Engineering Consultant Team.

Recent Progress

Received authorization in January 2006 to proceed with preliminary design.  Developing project Master Schedule.  Proceeding with getting Environmental Assessment (EA) and Discipline Report consultants under contract.  Preparing for the upcoming EA scoping meeting planned for late April.  Continue to coordinate design with Renton Nickel design.

Design Construction Impacts

The SR 515 Interchange project will add a new interchange to the existing I-405 mainline.  The majority of the construction will be along both sides of I-405 and east of SR 515, though construction on I-405 and SR 515 will be required to connect the proposed ramps to these existing facilities.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
A corridor wide Record of Decision for the programmatic FEIS was received in October 2002.  Project level environmental documentation will begin Spring 2006 with an agency and public scoping meeting

Impacts to Traffic
Moderate construction impacts expected.
