Project Title & Location
I-405/NE 8th St. to SR 520 Braided Crossing (TPA)
|
Project Description
This project constructs multi-level northbound braided ramps from NE 8th St. to I-405 and I-405 to SR 520. Construction also includes grade separating I-405 ramp traffic entering eastbound SR 520 from I-405 with SR 520 traffic exiting to 124th St. NE.

Recent Progress
Funding became available for this project in January 2006. This complex series of collector-distributor ramps will eliminate the I-405 to SR 520 weaving and minimize congestion by shifting I-405 access to SR 520 from NE 8th Street to NE 4th Street. The combined effect of separating traffic movements and increasing distance between access points improves safety and traffic operations. A design refinement meeting held in August verified the design concepts and made recommendations for design improvements. Overall footprint refinement was completed in August to support the Environmental Assessment process. Public and Agency Scoping meetings held in September.

Design Construction Impacts
The Bellevue Braids project is a complex interaction of structures. Full analysis of construction impacts will be determined as coordination with the SR 520 and the possible phase 2 Sound Transit projects continue.

|
Environmental Impacts / Compliance
A corridor wide Record of Decision for the programmatic FEIS was received in October 2002. Project level environmental documentation will begin July 2006 with an agency and public scoping meeting.
|
Impacts to Traffic
Expect at least moderate impacts to traffic during construction due to the complex nature of the structures in a highly urbanized area.
