Project Description
This project constructs multi-level braided ramps northbound from NE 8th Street to I-405 and from I-405 to SR 520. This project also includes improvements along eastbound 520 to compliment the I-405 improvements.

Contractor/Consultant
HNTB Corporation is the lead consultant of the General Engineering Consultant Team.

Recent Progress
Stage 1 of this project completes the east approach and connection to 116th Avenue NE. Stage 2 of this project completes the west approach and bridge over I-405 to connect to 112th Avenue NE. The Stage 1 contract is currently under construction. Installation of lightweight fill (geofoam) has been completed. The bridge abutment, pedestrian tunnel, and associated walls are also complete. Cement concrete paving; sidewalk and rail installation; utility work; and other miscellaneous work remains. The project is on schedule for completion by spring 2008. Stage 2 of the project was advertised for construction on September 24, 2007. Bids were opened on November 28, 2007, and the low bidder was within the Engineer’s Estimate. The project was awarded on December 4, 2007. Note that reported project costs and milestones shown below are based on the Legislature’s Final 2007 Transportation Supplemental Budget (07LegFin).

Design Construction Impacts
This will be a two-stage design-bid-build project. Stage 1 will complete the east abutment and approach work adjacent to the Group Health Specialty Center and Overlake Hospital Medical Center. Stage 2 will complete the bridge structure over I-405 and the west approach.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
A corridor-wide Record of Decision for the programmatic Final Environmental Impact Statement was received in October 2002. The environmental documentation for the project was completed by the City of Bellevue in February 2005. The Environmental Impact Statement was adopted in March 2006.

Impacts to Traffic
Minimal impacts are expected during construction of Stage 1. Construction of Stage 2 will include short-term impacts on the HOV operations in the I-405 median during construction of the center pier. Construction of the connection to 112th Avenue NE will require typical construction traffic impacts including short-term closures of city streets.
