I-405, Kirkland Nickel Stage 1 Project - September 2006

Construction crews paved the southbound auxiliary lanes on I-405
Throughout September, construction crews paved the southbound auxiliary lanes on I-405 between NE 85th Street and NE 116th Street. The southbound auxiliary lane is scheduled to open on October 12 and the northbound auxiliary lane is scheduled to open in early November.

Crews prepare to finsh the third set of girders on NE 116th Street Bridge
Crews have been preparing to finish the third set of girders on the NE 116th Street bridge.

Crews are creating and rehabilitating three existing wetlands - including two adjacent to Forbes Lake and one pictured above, at Thrashers Corner.  Maintaining these wetlands is important to the health and integrity of the basin's water quality and ecology.

Crews are creating over 250 feet of natural streambed below the new culvert under I-405, and are constructing a series of natural pools to help eliminate the need for fish ladders, which are difficult to maintain.  Trees that were removed during construction are being used to help create natural habitat in the new stream.
