Stage 2 adds one northbound lane from NE 70th Street to NE 85th Street, and one southbound lane from SR 522 to NE 124th Street and from NE 85th Street to the SR 520 area. TPA projects add a northbound lane from NE 124th Street to SR 522 and from NE 195th Street to SR 527.

Contractor/Consultant
HNTB Corporation is the lead consultant of the General Engineering Consultant Team.

Recent Progress
Nickel funding began July 1, 2003.  On October 2, 2003 the I-405 Executive Committee endorsed the Implementation Plan to guide future engineering design and environmental assessment.  Design team work has started on basemaps and surveying work.  The right-of-way plan is in progress.  A corridor-wide programmatic Endangered Species Act Biological Assessment is in progress as is a corridor-wide traffic forecast analysis.

Design Construction Impacts
This is a widening project that will be constructed in two stages.  Stage 1 provides one additional lane in both the northbound and southbound directions from NE 85th to NE 124th.  Stage 2 provides one additional northbound lane from NE 70th to NE 85th and one additional southbound lane from SR 522 to NE 124th and from NE 85th to SR 520.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
A corridor wide Record of Decision for the programmatic FEIS was received in October 2002.  Environmental documentation will begin February 2004 for the Kirkland Nickel work.

Impacts to Traffic

Widening work is to the outside of the existing roadways so it is expected that Impacts to the traveling public can be minimized during construction.
