Projects

The information presented on projects below is intended to give advanced information to our partners in industry and is subject to change.

I-405 Renton Stage II
This project will build a new half-diamond interchange on I-405 east of the I-405 / SR 167 interchange at SR 515 (Talbot Road) to improve access to downtown Renton and relieve traffic demand on the I-405 interchanges at SR 167 and SR 169.

Estimated contract amount - $90 to $100 million

SR 519 S Seattle Intermodal Access - Royal Brougham
Will improve connections for ferry and freight traffic to the Port of Seattle terminals and the central waterfront area. SR 519 improvements will separate car, freight, pedestrian and rail traffic to help improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and reduce the risk of collisions.

Estimated contract amount - $50 - $60 million

Bellevue  - NB NE 8th Street to SR 520 Braided Crossing
This project builds new structures to separate northbound traffic exiting to SR 520 from traffic entering I-405 in Bellevue. It also adds a new eastbound collector distributor lane (a lane that collects traffic from one roadway and deposits it onto another roadway) along SR 520 to separate the on and off ramps between I-405 and 124th Avenue traffic and a new on-ramp at NE 10th Street to SR 520.

Estimated contract amount - $175 - $200 million

I-405/SR 520 to I-5
This project adds NB lane from NE 124th St. to SR522 and from NE 195th St. to SR 527, constructs new NB and SB bridges at NE 132st, constructs grade separation of NB I-405 traffic exiting to SR 522 and traffic entering I-405 from NB NE 160th.

Estimated contract amount - $225 - $250 million

SR 532 Safety Improvements and Congestion Relief
This project provides safety and congestion relief. SR 532 provides a connecting route to the mainland for Camano Island, as well as the primary connection to and from I-5 for the city of Stanwood.

Estimated contract amount - $50 - $60 million

Enabling Legislation

WSDOT's current design-build legislation is contained in the following RCWs:

RCW 47.20.780
RCW 47.20.785
House Bill 2874 (pdf 12kb)

The 2001 Washington State Legislature passed legislation that expanded WSDOT's design-build authority. The minimum project size for design-build is set at ten million dollars. The process will be revisited by April 2008.

The 2006 Washington State Legislature passed legislation (House Bill 2874) that gives WSDOT the ability to conduct up to five design-build pilot projects on projects that cost between two and ten million dollars.

WSDOT-AGC-ACEC Team

WSDOT values input from its industry partners. A combined WSDOT-AGC-ACEC Design-Build Team was created to look into issues surrounding delivery of a design-build project.

The team's mission is to develop a design-build program in Washington State that offers a level playing field for competition and produces a superior product at a competitive price for both standard and mega projects.
