Overview
From September 2008 to December 2009, WSDOT and Seattle City Light removed high voltage electrical lines that were attached to the Alaskan Way Viaduct between South Massachusetts Street and Railroad Way South and replaced them with a new underground system. The lines had to be removed before construction to replace the viaduct between South Holgate and South King streets could begin.

How you benefit:
Improves safety
Relocating and upgrading the transmission and distribution lines between the Massachusetts Street Substation and Railroad Way South improves the system’s reliability and better protects downtown’s power supply in the event of an earthquake.
Seattle City Light is working to relocate the electrical lines from the viaduct's central waterfront section.
