Recent Progress
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which compared the five alternatives under consideration, was released on March 31, 2004. For a description of the five alternatives, please visit the project web site at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/Viaduct/ . The 60 day DEIS public review comment period concluded on June 1, 2004. Work continues toward identifying data needed to pick the preferred alternative. This work has centered on the south end configuration, stormwater management approach, and construction traffic approach.

Design Construction Impacts
Further delay in selection of the preferred alternative will continue to delay the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision.
Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The DEIS public comments are being collated and categorized, and responses are being prepared for inclusion into the Final Environmental Impact Statement.
Impacts to Traffic
During early preliminary engineering, construction contract packages and staging will be studied, and traffic detour strategies will be investigated.
