Construction update

South end viaduct replacement (between S. Holgate Street and S. King Street)
Crews continue to replace utilities near the Port of Seattle's Terminal 46, west of the sports stadiums. Work is being done overnight where possible, to minimize traffic delays and other construction impacts during the day. Safe bicycle and pedestrian routes are being maintained during construction, as is access to local residences, businesses and freight facilities in the area.
Road and bridge construction for the south end replacement is expected to begin in spring 2010. More information is available on the project page.
SR 99 Intelligent Transportation Systems
Crews have started construction to install new traffic cameras, signal timers and electronic overhead message boards on SR 99 and major routes leading to SR 99 in Seattle.
In early January drivers can expect to see construction crews working during the day on northbound East Marginal Way (SR 99) between South Michigan Street and First Avenue S. Crews will close one of two lanes and work in the shoulder. More information is available on the project page.
All of this work will be complete by December 2010, before crews start significant construction of the viaduct replacement. This work is part of an overall plan to keep people and goods moving during construction.
