US 97A - Wildlife Fence

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2009

Project Title & Location
US 97A, North of Wenatchee - Wildlife Fence

Project Description
This section of highway has a large number of wildlife collisions. To aid in preventing such collisions a partnership between WSDOT and numerous groups will construct 9 miles of 8 foot tall wildlife fence parallel to the highway.

Contractor/Consultant
This project is in the design phase.

Recent Progress
Bids for Stage 1 were opened on 6/4/09.  Stage 1 is scheduled to be awarded 6/8/09.  We're in the process of acquiring the remaining 3 private parcels for Stage 2 and completing the Stage 2 PS&E.

Design Construction Impacts
There are 18 easements to purchase for the project from both private and public lands.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
NEPA will require an EA to comply.

Impacts to Traffic
Most of the work will be off the roadway but there will be minor impacts to traffic.
