In summer 2016, the Washington State Department of Transportation repaved more than seven miles of US 97, between the Biggs Rapids Bridge and Prairie Road (Centerville Road) in Klickitat County.
The asphalt on several portions of US 97 was showing signs of deterioration, cracking and rutting. Repaving was necessary on this stretch of highway.
This work extends the useful life of road, and creates safer and improved driving conditions.
Removing ruts and cracks produces a smoother highway surface, and creates a safer ride for drivers.
| Economic Incentive
Repaving this section of US 97 improved the surface of the roadway, extended the life of the highway, and reduced the need for costly emergency repairs and maintenance.
