Recent Progress
This project is in the early design stage. Recent information obtained through the Yakama Nation Cultural Department has assisted WSDOT in looking at alternatives which would avoid culturally sensitive areas. WSDOT has submitted a geotechnical drilling plan to the Yakama Nation Cultural Department for review.

Design Construction Impacts
A land ownership dispute in the area of the project has delayed the start of the cultural report. This report is key to the delivery of this project. Several milestones may be delayed. The previous design concept has been eliminated due to a land dispute and cultural issues. The current design concept proposes moving the existing alignment toward a large steep hillside and constructing a new bridge north of the existing bridge. This option would improve safety by increasing the roadway width and sight distance, but may require additional funding beyond the current budget. Another design concept under consideration would construct a detour bridge and replace the existing bridge at its current location. This would improve safety by increasing the roadway width, but would only provide minimal improvements to sight distance. The current $10.4 million budget would likely cover this concept.
