This I-3, Economic Initiatives Capital Improvement Program project is intended to improve freight mobility by providing a dedicated passing lane, reducing the potential for crossover collisions on this major arterial in and out of British Columbia.
This project constructed a 1.35 mile passing lane two miles north of Riverside, expanding the highway to three 12-foot wide lanes with 8 foot shoulders.
Construction began April 15 and was complete June 6, 2013.
Reduces the potential for head on collisions and eliminates the need to enter the Southbound lane to pass slower vehicles.
Reduces congestion and improves freight and passenger vehicle mobility by reducing the delays caused by slower vehicles.
