This I-2 Highway Capital Improvement - Collision Prevention Safety Project is installing a turning lane on US 97 at Barber Road in Douglas County.
Why is WSDOT
upgrading this intersection?
This project is to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic conflicts and improve mobility. Due to increased development that has increased traffic in the area served by Barber Road, a Northbound turn lane was added in addition to the existing southbound right turn pocket. The road was widened, new illumination and pavement markings installed, and slope flattening improved visibility.
The End Result
Traffic has a safe place to wait, outside the through lanes, improving mobility and reducing the potential for rear end and T-bone collisions.
The new left turn Lane will seperate turning traffic from the mainline through traffic, decreasing conflicts.
What is the project timeline?
Construction started June 3 and is expected to be complete in 25 working days.
