Overview
This collision prevention safety improvement project installed new guardrail within three sections of US 97 in Kittitas, Chelan and Okanogan Counties with a high percentage of run-off-the-road-accidents recorded between July, 2000 and July, 2005:
MP 150 to MP 182 near Blewett Pass: 40% of the accidents were off the road collisions.
MP 271 to MP 289 through the Colville Indian Reservation: 41%.
MP 305 to MP 325 beginning North of Riverside: 22%.
Work began May 16th and was complete on August 17, 2006

By reducing the severity of off the road crashes with installation of more than 30,000 feet of guardrail.

With installation of 56 feet of drain pipe, 2 new catch basins and 365 feet of silt fencing.

Partnerships & Cooperation
One section of US 97 where guardrail was installed is located on the Colville Indian Reservation. No impacts to historic or cultural sites were identified. Consultation with the Colville Confederated Tribes was completed on March 23, 2006.
Funding
This project was advertised for private contractor bids on April 3rd, 2006. Two qualifying bids were opened on April 27th. On May 1st, contract # 7141 was awarded to Petersen Brothers, Inc. for $835,293.66.
This project is funded by the 2005 Gas Tax (Partnership funding) - $1.0 million
Total funding from all sources - $1.0 million
