Project Status

Spring 2008

This project is scheduled to be advertised for private contractor bids on May 27th with construction to follow this spring and summer.

This Safety Improvement Program project builds new sidewalk, limiting roadside access and provides illuminated crosswalks.  It is being advanced a year and combined with a City of Brewster sidewalk project to save money.

Why is WSDOT installing sidewalk, crosswalks, and illumination in the City of Brewster?
This area has been identified as a high pedestrian risk location due, in large part, to the fruit packing facilities on the west side of the highway and employee parking on the east side.  The installation of sidewalks and illuminated crosswalks will increase pedestrian safety by defining access locations and increasing pedestrian visiblity for motorists.

The End Result
There will be new sidewalk along the southeast side of US 97 from Main Street to SR 173, including illuminated crosswalks at the intersection of 7th Street and US 97 and other designated sites along US 97 in Brewster.
