January/February 2018

  • Weekly Construction Update
  • Work suspended for winter.
  • Awarded to the Max J. Kuney Company of Spokane with a construction bid of $7,655,561.

Two mainline freeway bridges will be built over Freya Street north of Francis Ave.

Why is WSDOT building these bridges?
These two bridges will carry the main freeway lanes of the North Spokane Corridor across Freya Street to connect the existing freeway lanes to the section through the Hillyard industrial area.

The End Result
A 10-mile,multi-lane, high-speed transportation route providing an efficient through route in the Spokane metro area.

Project Benefits

When fully completed, travel time between Wandermere and I-90 will be shortened to approximately 12 minutes; fewer trucks will be on the local arterials, because they will be using the freeway for north and south destinations points.

Provides a safe bicycle/pedestrian trail that connects to the Centennial Trail and other established trail systems, as well as neighborhoods within the Spokane area.

What is the project timeline?
The project will get underway in spring 2017 and take about 18 months to construct.
