Plan & Profile
Plan and profile sheets are a very useful tool when designing a roadway because on one sheet two kinds of information is displayed. On the upper half of the sheet is the plan view which is simply an overhead view of a section of the proposed roadway. The lower half of the sheet is where the profile information is shown, existing ground and the centerline of the proposed roadway. From this an engineer can see a particular section of roadway from an overhead view and also see what the roadway is doing in relationship to existing ground.
