NSC-US 2 to Wandermere & US 2 Lowering - Construct New Roadway

Project Description
Constructs four new drivable lanes of the North Spokane Corridor between Farwell Road and Wandermere including a new connection to US 395 at Wandermere. Constructs an interchange at US 2. This project will increase capacity and reduce travel time. There will be four lanes when this project is completed.

Recent Progress
This project will have two contracts.  The PS& E for the first, US 2 Lowering, is in Region review. 
The PS&E for the second, US 2 to Wandermere is approximately 40% complete.  Ongoing work in the Project Office includes analyzing retaining wall options, determining whether bridge footing work will affect wetlands and beginning to discuss wall architectural features with the State bridge and Structures architect.  A neighborhood meeting will be scheduled to discuss wall architecture. The Geotechnical Branch continues to gather foundation data for Bridge piers, wall foundations, and rock cut slopes.  

Design Construction Impacts
The Region continues to monitor the overall cost of the NSC projects and is continually investigating methods to build the project as scoped for the least possible dollars.

Right of Way Spring 2008    We have completed 20 of the 33 parcels (61%) for this project.  All appraisals completed, and are in negotiation. 7 parcels are in processing for payment  6 parcels are in condemnation 2 with P&U. 
Environmental Permits Spring 2008   NEPA Complete. Target SEPA comp=1/4/08. Target Sec. 106 update complete=1/31/08. Target permits complete=8/4/08. Permits needed=USACE 404, DOE 401, WDFW HPA, Spokane County Floodplain & Shoreline (CAO) Permits.
Contract Advertisement August 2008    The US 2 lowering contract will advertise in Aug. 2008, the US 2 to Wandermere contract will advertise by Aug 2009 to coordinate sections opening to traffic simultaneously.
