NSC-US 2 to Wandermere & US 2 Lowering - Construct New Roadway

Project Description
Constructs four new drivable lanes of the North Spokane Corridor between Farwell Road and Wandermere including a new connection to US 395 at Wandermere. Constructs an interchange at US 2. This project will increase capacity and reduce travel time. There will be four lanes when this project is completed.

Recent Progress
This project will have two contracts.  The PS& E for the first, US 2 Lowering, was advertised on August 18, 2008 with bid opening on October 16, 2008.   The Contractor has excavated over 320,000 CY of material, constructed 153 out of 162 H piles for retaining wall 2, and has installed 30% of the timber lagging.  Over 50% of the piling for the bridge footings have been driven.  Footings, columns and abutments are being constructed for the LL, LR and EW-N bridges over US 2.  Concrete girders are being cast by Central Pre-Mix.

The PS&E for the second project, US 2 to Wandermere advertised on May 26, 2009.

Design Construction Impacts
The Region continues to monitor the overall cost of the NSC projects and is continually investigating methods to build the project as scoped for the least possible dollars.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
No impacts at this time.

Impacts to Traffic
The Stage 2 traffic control plan was implemented with two northbound lanes and one southbound lane on US 2.

Open to Traffic May 2011 The open to traffic date is being evaluated based on the contractor's progress.
