Project Title & Location
NSC - Francis Avenue to Farwell Road - Construct New Roadway

Project Description
Constructs two lanes of the North Spokane Corridor between Farwell Road and Francis Avenue. Provides a new road between these two major county roads and completes the grading between US 2 and Wandermere. This project will increase capacity and reduce travel time. There will be two lanes when this project is completed.

Contractor/Consultant
Freya to Francis Vic.-Grading and Structures-Steelman Duff, Freya St. to Farwell Rd.-PCCP Paving - Acme Concrete Paving, Inc., BNSF RR Tunnel - Scarsella Bros.

Recent Progress
 The first three contracts, Farwell Road Lowering, Gerlach to Wandermere Grading and Francis Avenue to U.S. 2 – Structures have been completed.   The fourth contract, Freya to Francis Vic. – Grading and Structures is essentially complete. All local roads and streets will be open as of 9/4/08. The only work left to complete several traffic islands, permanent signing, fencing, and punchlist items.  The fifth contract, Freya St. to Farwell Rd. – PCCP Paving was executed on May 23, 2007.  The Contractor has completed the PCCP on mainline and Farwell Road, seeding, fertilizing, and mulching, and is continuing to install electrical, drainage items, shouldering with CSBC, and installing islands/curbs.  The sixth contract, BNSF RR Tunnel was executed on 12/14/2007.    All of the footings and stem walls have been completed; final pour date was 8/25/2008. The 444 tunnel arch pieces were placed between 8/18/2008 and 9/19/2008. All grouting and closure pours have been completed. Embankment material being placed and should be completed by Christmas. Wing wall footings have been poured, walls to begin 12/1/2008 and should be completed by Christmas. Seeding, fertilizer, mulch, and compost have been placed in borrow sites and finished slopes. During all phases of the construction there has been a BNSF flagger on site daily and a BPA safety watcher when equipment is utilized within BPA easement areas.

Design Construction Impacts
The Region continues to monitor the overall cost of the NSC projects and is continually investigating methods to build the project as scoped for the least possible dollars.

No impacts at this time

Impacts to Traffic
The US 2 detour is open to traffic, no restrictions are anticipated.
