The project installed recessed plastic edge lines to increase safety and improve the life of the edge lines from MP 60.80 to MP 69.40.

Why is WSDOT installing recessed plastic edge lines?
Painted edge lines (sometimes called fog stripes) were being worn off by snowplows and traffic during the winter season.  Wet pavement conditions and temperatures prevent striping crews from re-painting the lines until late spring.  These edge lines give drivers directions on the proper lane in which to drive and indicate the edge of the driving lane.  When they are worn and hard to see, driving over the Stevens pass summit can become more difficult and potentially dangerous.

The End Result
The edge line now consists of a thicker, recessed edge line that will be more resistant to snow plow blades and traffic.

Project Benefits
This project provides an edge line that will last longer than a painted edge line, enhancing safety over Stevens Pass.

What is the project timeline?
Work began August 1 and was complete August 4, 2011.
