This safety project constructed a passing lane on US 2/97 from MP 133.58 to MP 136.09 in western Douglas County.
Why is WSDOT
constructing a passing lane on US 2/97?
There have been numerous passing related collisions along this corridor due to limited passing opportunities. This project will provide a new and safer place to pass.
The End Result
A safer and more efficient roadway. This project reduces the risk of head on collisions by providing additional passing opportunities.

What is the project timeline?
Construction started June 8 and was complete November 20, 2009.
Financial Information
This project was advertised for private contractor bids on March 23rd, 2009, renamed the Baker Flats to Orondo Paving and Passing Lane project. Two qualified bids were opened on April 30. On May 4 contract #7718 was awarded to Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. for $3,546,628.13, 31-1/2% below the engineering estimate.
This project is funded through the following sources:
- Transportation Partnership Account (TPA) - $3.36 million
- Total funding from all sources - $3.36 million
