Overview
US 2 is an important cross-Cascades route and serves as a major freight route. It is also popular with tourists and recreational users. We designed and built several improvements to enhance safety for the 15,300 drivers who use this important route each day.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
We have extended the two-way left-turn lanes in Sultan and Gold Bar and built a new two-way left-turn lane east of Monroe that will reduce rear-end and side-impact collisions related to traffic turning into and out of driveways and cross streets. Two-way left-turn lanes provide a refuge for turning drivers in heavy traffic.

The changed intersection of Sultan-Startup Rd and US 2 will reduce the risk of collisions involving drivers turning onto and off of the highway.

Partnerships & Cooperation
The 2008 legislature directed WSDOT to work with the local community to identify safety concerns. With their feedback and our safety data, we were able to develop solutions.
