We will improve safety on US 2 and State Route 92 by installing over a mile of guardrail and removing potentially dangerous objects, such as tree stumps or boulders, from the side of the road.
Why is WSDOT
improving roadside safety on US 2 and SR 92?
Over the past five years, approximately 45 percent of all collisions that occurred on this stretch of US 2 involved vehicles leaving the roadway and colliding with fixed objects. Installing guardrail in key spots along US 2 from Gold Bar to Skykomish and SR 92 near Granite Falls will improve driver safety by preventing vehicles from leaving the roadway. Removing potentially dangerous objects from the side of the road will also improve safety by reducing the risk of vehicles hitting a fixed object if they leave the roadway.
The End Result
We will reduce the risk of serious run-of-the-road collisions on US 2 and SR 92 by removing potentially dangerous objects from the side of the road and installing over a mile of guardrail.

What is the project timeline?
- Sept. 17, 2007 - Awarded project to Petersen Brothers Inc., who submitted the most competitive bid.
- Spring 2008 - We expect to begin construction, as weather permits.
- Late summer 2008 - We expect to complete construction.

Environmental Protection
We will implement erosion control to protect the roadway in large storm events.
We make every effort to assess and minimize environmental impacts from our projects. We work to reduce impacts to wetlands, creeks and streams in the project area.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Drivers will benefit from safety improvements on US 2 and SR 92. Installing guardrail and removing fixed objects will reduce the risk and severity of collisions involving vehicles leaving the roadway.
Will this project impact tribal resources?
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
