Project Facts
  • This project will reduce the number and severity of off-road collisions.
  • Flattening steep shoulders will provide errant drivers with an opportunity to recover control and reduce roadside collisions.
  • 9,308 linear feet of new guardrail will be installed (nearly 2 miles) plus another 2,482 linear feet of concrete barrier.

Project Status

Spring 2008

On April 21st, contract #7534 for $417,798.43 was awarded to Frank Gurney, Inc. of Spokane.  Construction should begin in June and be complete by mid July.

This Collision Prevention, Safety Improvement Project will remove roadside hazards, install guardrail and concrete barrier where warranted, in the 20 miles between the summit of Stevens Pass east to the Coles Corner turnoff to SR 207 and Lake Wenatchee State Park.

Why is WSDOT removing roadside hazards, installing guardrail and concrete barrier on US 2?
This section of US 2 has been identified as having a high number of injury-producing collisions involving vehicles leaving the roadway.  Contributing causes include speeding and severe weather.

The End Result
This project will result in a safer roadway by providing more protection from roadside hazards and steep shoulders.

Project Benefits
This project will improve safety and reduce the severity of off-road accidents by:

  • Providing a higher level of protection with new guardrail and concrete barrier.
  • Reducing roadside collisions by removing roadside hazards.

What is the project timeline?
Construction should begin in June and be complete by mid July. (25 working days).
