Complete November 2012

Work began Sept. 17, 2012 and was finished  Nov. 20.

This is an I-2 Safety improvement project that was identified as a Collision Analysis Corridor (CAL) on US 2 at the Main Street intersection to the city of Peshastin - Milepost 103.65. This is a three leg signalized intersection that ties into a bridge to the north crossing the Wenatchee River providing the main connection into the city of Peshastin. On the south side of the highway, there is a gas station, but no road and there are 15 residential approaches, between MP 103.5 and MP 103.9 on the highway.

Why is WSDOT extending the existing right turn lane, updating existing signing, and installing new signs?
Congestion at the Peshastin intersection has created an ongoing potential for primarily rear end collisions due to traffic queuing at the intersection signal. Extending the right turn lane by approximately 200 feet will give turning vehicles the ability to decelerate outside of the through lane.  Updated static signs and the new Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) radar speed sign will help to inform travelers of their speed and of the intersection ahead.

The End Result

Project Benefits

  • The lengthened right turn lane lane provides more room for deceleration outside of the through lane.
  • Travelers can see their speed and congestion information on signs in advance of the intersection.

What is the project timeline?
Construction began September 17 and was complete in 25 working days, on November 20. (Work was delayed by late materials deliveries and forest fire suspensions.)

Financial Information

Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.

This project was advertised for private contractor bids in June. Three qualified bids were opened July 19. On July 23, contract #8350 was awarded to Sail Electric, Inc. for $180,714.00, 20% over the engineering estimate.

The total estimated cost for design and construction of all stages is approximately $201,000.
This is a federally funded project.
