Project Facts
- Connect existing fiber lines.
- Construction in 2008.
- Provide connectivity for existing and future cameras.
August 2008
- Contract was awarded to Colvico, Inc. of Spokane with a construction bid of $1,257,163.
- Construction is underway.
This project consists of installing a fiber optic communications line along Division Street in north Spokane.
Why is WSDOT
building a fiber optic line?
The fiber optic line will complete a link between two existing fiber lines that are part of the transportation communications network.
The End Result
Completion of the line will connect existing networks. This will enable WSDOT to place live video cameras and traffic volume measuring equipment at various locations along state highways and have those images available to the Traffic Management Center.
Project Benefits
With the completion of this link, and the addition of additional traffic monitoring equipment, operators at the Traffic Management Center can observe vehicle traffic and watch for incidents or collisions. The operator can alert emergency crews or roadway maintenance personnel, if needed.
What is the project timeline?
Construction is underway and will be completed during 2008.
