US 2 - Forest Service Road to Money Creek - Paving

Project Facts
  • Governor Gregoire has designated US 2 as a safety corridor.
  • US 2 is a major east-west route for emergency services, school buses, and transit.
  • This section of US 2 is designated as a Scenic and Recreational Highway.

Project Status

May 2008

  • We awarded this project to Watson Paving Inc. and expect to begin construction in July 2008.

WSDOT will repave three miles of US 2 between Forest Service Road and Money Creek, as well as install centerline rumble strips and guardrail.

Why is WSDOT repaving US 2 west of Money Creek?
Resurfacing will extend the pavement's life and provide drivers with a smoother and safer roadway.  Guardrail and centerline rumble strips will reduce the risks of run-off-the-road and crossover collisions.

The End Result
Drivers will enjoy a smooth, long-lasting road surface when this project is complete.  Centerline rumble strips and new guardrail will enhance safety.

Project Benefits
Safety: Rumble strips alert drivers when they are crossing over the centerline by creating a loud noise and vibrations. Fresh lane striping will make the roadway more visible to drivers at night.  A smoother road surface will improve overall safety.

What is the project timeline?

  • Project advertised to contractors: April 2008
  • Construction begins: Summer 2008
  • Estimated completion: Fall 2008

Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. Please contact Project Engineer Sharif Shaklawun if you have questions or comments.

Environmental Protection
WSDOT makes every effort to assess and minimize environmental impacts from our projects. During project design, WSDOT will work to reduce the impact to wetlands, creeks and rivers that could be in the project area.

A detailed analysis of the project's environmental impacts will be completed and, if necessary, an appropriate plan for mitigation of impacts will be developed and documented as part of the Environmental Documentation and Environmental Permitting processes.
Please visit the WSDOT Environmental Services Web site for more information.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
The smoother road surface, centerline rumble strips and guardrail will improve safety.
