Project Complete August 2009
Construction began April 6, 2009 and was complete August 3, almost a month ahead of schedule.
This Preservation Program project stabilized six different rock slopes above US 2, between Orondo and Waterville in Pine Canyon.
Why is WSDOT
stabilizing these slopes?
This project will reduce the number of rocks rolling onto the roadway, creating driving hazards.
Stabilization techniques recommended by WSDOT's Geotechnical branch for this project include cutting back the slopes to a flatter angle, removing debris, scaling rocks from the slopes, installing rock bolts and steel cable netting.
The End Result
This project improves safety by reducing the potential for falling rocks to create a hazard on the roadway.
Project Benefits
- Safety - Increasing the stability of these rock slopes provides safer driving conditions on US 2.
What is the project timeline?
