US 2 - Bickford Avenue Intersection Safety Improvements

Status

May 2012

  • We expect to begin construction this summer.

  • We advertised this project for competitive bid on April 2.

This project is the result of the US 2 Route Development Plan and will build a new overcrossing from Bickford Avenue to westbound US 2. We will also improve lighting.

Why is WSDOT improving the US 2/Bickford Avenue intersection?
There have been a significant number of collisions directly related to driver turning across traffic from Bickford Avenue to westbound US 2.

We expect the new bridge to reduce the number and severity of collisions at this location by taking traffic over US 2 rather than across US 2.

The End Result
This project will improve driver safety at this location by building a bridge that will allow drivers to safely cross and merge onto westbound US 2.

Project Benefits

  • The new bridge and ramp will reduce congestion by eliminating the current intersection.
  • The project will reduce the number of collisions because drivers will cross over US 2 instead of crossing through traffic.
  • New and upgraded lighting will increase visibility for drivers.

What is the project timeline?

  • July 2009: Begin design.
  • April 2012: Advertise project.
  • Summer 2012: Begin construction.
  • Fall 2013: Complete construction.
