We built a new overcrossing from Bickford Avenue to westbound US 2 near Snohomish to reduce the risk of serious collisions. We also built a new ramp to provide a better merge onto eastbound US 2.
We also replaced five failing culverts beneath both eastbound and westbound US 2 between the US 2 trestle and Bickford Avenue.
New Bickford Avenue overpass
The overpass will reduce the number of collisions by taking drivers over US 2 rather than across it.
New eastbound on-ramp
The new ramp reduces the risk of collisions because drivers now have a longer lane to get up to speed and merge rather than making a right turn onto the highway after coming to a full stop on Bickford Avenue.
The intersection was the site of more than two dozen collisions between 2006 and Sept. 2013.
The new culverts prevent settlement underneath the highway.
The bridge and ramp reduces congestion by eliminating the intersection where drivers on Bickford had to come to a full stop before trying to enter the highway.
| Protects Environment
The new culverts provide proper drainage for roadway water runoff.
| Economic Incentive
The new culverts reduce annual maintenance costs.
Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked very closely with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, Washington State Patrol, Snohomish County and the City of Snohomish during the design and construction of the new overpass.
