US 12/Schouweiler Rd Intersection Improvements Proposed Improvements

Existing intersection layout at US 12 and Schouweiler Road

Existing intersection

WSDOT presented three alternatives to the public at a December 2015 open house. Based on feedback from the community and available project funds, WSDOT intends to move forward the following hybrid solution.

This selected option provides numerous benefits to drivers, including reducing areas where the paths of two vehicles diverge, merge, or cross, and increasing motorists’ sight distance. The proposed changes also greatly increase drivers’ abilities to reach highway speeds before merging onto the road. This selected option provides the most benefits to greatest number of drivers and businesses that use the intersection. We believe the improvements will have the duel benefit of addressing most of the community’s concerns while keeping construction costs within available funding. We plan to advertise the project for contractor bids during summer 2016.
