Crews work to repair the wall
Crews worked to repair the wall along the hillside on US 12 east of White Pass.

Overview
On Oct. 1, 2013, a washout three miles east of White Pass, closed US 12 from Packwood to Naches for three days while crews assessed the stability of the highway along the hillside and determined the next steps. On Oct. 4, 2013, Gov. Jay Inslee signed a proclamation allowing WSDOT and local agencies to pursue federal emergency relief funds to restore the highway.

The roadway reopened for winter travel and by spring 2014, crews reinforced the wall and repaired the drainage structure to prevent further washouts.
