US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2008

Project Title & Location
US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Project Description
This project will replace two structurally deficient bridges across the Tieton River with two wider bridges that meet current standards. A new, straighter roadway between the two bridges will be constructed, moving the roadway away from a rockfall hazard.

Contractor/Consultant
Project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
Preliminary wetland mitigation, riparian planting and large woody debris plans have been completed and submitted as part of the Joint Aquatic Resource Permits Application (JARPA).
Constructability and work zone meeting was held in late November.

Design Construction Impacts
WSDOT is working on an alternative alignment assessment to present to the county and other resource agencies.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Yakima County has officially recommended that WSDOT design the project to use the existing road and reduce the new floodplain fills as much as possible. Under the county’s Shoreline Master Plan they need to be assured that the project is minimizing impacts to land area that is useable for shoreline.

Impacts to Traffic
We plan to utilize existing bridges to detour traffic.
