US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2008

Project Title & Location
US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Project Description
This project will replace two structurally deficient bridges across the Tieton River with two wider bridges that meet current standards. A new, straighter roadway between the two bridges will be constructed, moving the roadway away from a rockfall hazard.

Contractor/Consultant
Project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
In order to address Shoreline and Critical Areas mitigation standards for Yakima County, WSDOT has completed an alternative alignment assessment.
The alternative alignments have been presented to Yakima County and other supporting agencies.

Design Construction Impacts
Further delay in selecting an alignment will impact HQ Bridge from delivering a set of plans for review in February 2009.  This delay also impacts the advertisement date and amount of construction that can be achieved in 2009.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Yakima County has officially recommended that WSDOT design the project to use the existing road and reduce the new floodplain fills as much as possible. Under the county’s Shoreline Master Plan they need to be assured that the project is minimizing impacts to land area that is useable for shoreline.

Impacts to Traffic
We plan to utilize existing bridges to detour traffic.
