US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending December 2008

Project Title & Location
US 12 - Tieton River East and West Bridges - Replacement

Project Description
This project will replace two structurally deficient bridges across the Tieton River with two wider bridges that meet current standards. A new, straighter roadway between the two bridges will be constructed, moving the roadway away from a rockfall hazard.

Contractor/Consultant
Project has not been advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
WSDOT and WDFW are planning a meeting with Rafter Groups.  Yakima County issued the Shoreline Permit in December 2008.  Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife submitted the draft Hydraulic Project Approval for comments to WSDOT in December 2008.

Design team work is approximately 90% complete. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009.

Design Construction Impacts
The profile modifications to the alignment will possibly impact HQ Bridge from delivering a set of bridge plans for review in February 2009.  This delay most likely will not impact the advertisement date set for April 2009.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Yakima County has officially recommended that WSDOT design the project to use the existing road and reduce the new floodplain fills as much as possible. Under the county’s Shoreline Master Plan they need to be assured that the project is minimizing impacts to land area that is useable for shoreline.

Impacts to Traffic
We plan to utilize existing bridges to detour traffic.
