US 12 - Frenchtown Vicinity to Walla Walla - Add Lanes

Project Description
This project is phase six of eight phases that improve US 12 from SR 124 (Burbank) to Walla Walla. This approximately eight mile project will reconstruct US 12 from McDonald Road to Walla Walla as a four lane divided highway, with improved capacity and enhanced safety.

Contractor/Consultant
David Evans and Associates prepared the Resource Reports.  Landau and Associates have studied the springs near Pine Street. 

Recent Progress
The contractor has moved over 1,800,000 cubic yards of material along the new alignment and has completed the two lane roundabout. The roundabout will be open when the new Myra Rd is opened in December 09. The abutments are done on the US12 bridge over Pine St. and girders are planned to be set in March 09.

Design Construction Impacts
The project is on schedule, on budget, and on scope as per the approved 2007-2009 Transportation budget.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Environmental documentation and permitting is complete. 

Impacts to Traffic
WSDOT will construct a 50 MPH detour at the Pine Street intersection for public safety.

Right of Way Certification Oct 07 Nov 07 Ongoing negotiations delayed the Right of Way Certification until November 29, 2007.
Contract Advertisement Oct 07 Dec 07 Advertisement date delayed until December 17, 2007 because of ongoing right of way negotiations.
Operationally Complete Oct 09 WSDOT anticipates the project will take two full construction seasons to complete. The 2008 budget Changed the Operationally Complete date to Oct 2009.
