US 12 - Frenchtown Vicinity to Walla Walla - Add Lanes Walla Walla County

Project Description
This project is phase six of eight phases that improve US 12 from SR 124 (Burbank) to Walla Walla. This approximately eight mile project will reconstruct US 12 from McDonald Road to Walla Walla as a four lane divided highway, with improved capacity and enhanced safety.

Contractor/Consultant
David Evans and Associates prepared the Resource Reports. Landau and Associates have studied the springs near Pine Street.

Recent Progress
The project was awarded on February 4, 2008 and executed on February 13, 2008. The contractor has moved over 500,000 cubic yards of material along the new alignment and has started to construct a new interchange at US 12 and Pine St. A celebration of progress was held on June 3rd.

Design Construction Impacts
The project is on schedule, on budget, and on scope as per the approved 2007-2009 Transportation budget.

Environmental documentation and permitting is complete.

Impacts to Traffic
WSDOT will construct a 50 MPH detour at the Pine Street intersection for public safety.
