Project Description
This project is phase six of eight phases that improve US 12 from SR 124 (Burbank) to Walla Walla. This approximately eight mile project will reconstruct US 12 from McDonald Road to Walla Walla as a four lane divided highway, with improved capacity and enhanced safety.

Recent Progress
In 2003 and 2004, the US Highway 12 Coaltiion successfully lobbied for $8.2 million in Federal Earmark Funds to continue development of design and contract plans, and for the acquisition of right of way for US 12 between McDonald Rd and Walla Walla. Recent progress includes surveying, field investigation, data research, and preliminary borings for soil conditions. An Open House will be held in late March to answer questions about the project and schedule. The Transpo Group has been hired to conduct a traffic analysis.

Design Construction Impacts
At the request of the US 12 Highway Coalition, an agressive schedule has been developed to prepare a contract by November 2006. Senator Patty Murray and Representative Nethercutt are supporting the Coalitions request for additional federal funding to construct this project.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The Interagency Project Team (IPT), formed for the Phase 4 Planning Study, will assist the WSDOT to identify the environmental impacts within a likely corridor. David Evans and Associates has been hired to conduct the Resource Studies.
