Where the new on-ramp will instersect with SR 3.Construction of the bridge piers is complete. Last week crews poured concrete on the new deck.Work crews bring in over 100 loads of fill material each day. The fill material is being used to build up the area around the bridge deck, so connections to SR 3 and US 101 will be level.So far, over 16,000 tons of fill material has been brought to the work site. It is estimated 25,000 tons will be used total.A giant auger is used to drill shafts for piers. After the shafts are drilled, reinforcing steel rebar cages are inserted in the shaft and concrete is poured.
