Why is WSDOT
building a ramp from SR 3 to northbound US 101?
In 1972 a planned interchange at the intersection of SR 3 and US 101 was partially constructed. At that time, southbound SR 3 traffic accessing northbound US 101 was quite low. Traffic making these movements was accommodated with a temporary at-grade intersection.
Since 1972, increases in traffic volume have increased the risk of collisions at this location. Construction of the northbound on-ramp for the planned interchange will provide a safer, more efficient access point for SR 3 traffic going northbound on US 101.
The End Result
Construction of the new northbound ramp eliminates left turns at the existing at-grade intersection. Construction of the northbound on-ramp will complete a portion of the planned SR 3/US 101 interchange.
Project Benefits
- Safety. The new northbound on-ramp eliminates left turns from SR 3 to northbound US 101, increasing motorist safety.
What is the project timeline?
The new on-ramp opened to motorists in November 2008.
