Overview
Crews working for WSDOT built a buttress wall to shore up an unstable hillside and stop long-term settlement problems caused by a slow-moving, pre-historic landslide under the highway.

Stabilizing the slope at milepost 72.6 on US 101 is intended to reduce the potential for slide-related closures at this location. This work also is expected to reduce maintenance costs associated with regularly leveling, patching and repaving the road.
