Project Title & Location
US 101 - Mt. Walker NB & SB Passing/Truck Lane, located between Quilcene and Brinnon

Project Description
On the Olympic Peninsula there are limited areas for a traveler to pass slow-moving vehicles, creating a safety hazard and delaying motorist. This mobility improvement project provides passing opportunities on the US 101 corridor.

Contractor/Consultant
Lakeside Industries was awarded the Project.

Recent Progress
Preconstruction Meeting has been held - June 6.

Design Construction Impacts
Impacting Utilities and removing some timber from US Forest Service Land.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
As designed, the project will have some adverse impacts to critical habitat. The impacts will be addressed by limiting some activities to certain hours of the day. Permits will be obtained prior to advertisement.

Impacts to Traffic
When construction begins, it is anticipated that some lane restrictions will occur. Single-lane, alternating traffic will be in place during the roadway widening and paving operation. brief road closures will be required to accommodate rock blasting if the northbound lane is constructed.

Utility Relocation March, 2007  90% June1, 2007 PSE has yet to submit a relocation plan for southbound lane. Until recently on hold, utilities have now been directed to go forward with relocation.
Right of Way Complete December 8, 2006 April 5, 2007 After being on hold, ROW purchase proceding for northbound leg. A lease with the federal Forest Service must be obtained for a portion of the southbound widening.
Environmental Document Complete December 8, 2006 May 30, 2007 Cultural Resources Survey with SHPO. US Forest Service to prepare NEPA, up to a 30 day process.
Contract Advertisement January, 2007 April 16, 2007
Current ad date is April 16, 2007.
