US 101 - Mt. Walker NB & SB Passing/Truck Lane

Project Description
On the Olympic Peninsula there are limited areas for a traveler to pass slow-moving vehicles, creating a safety hazard and delaying motorist. This mobility improvement project provides passing opportunities on the US 101 corridor.

Contractor/Consultant
State forces are designing the project - it is not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
Right-of-way plans have been submitted and right-of-way acquisition can begin.

Design Construction Impacts

This project is currently under design. The hydraulic design BMPs have been finalized and hydraulic report is in review.  We are in the process of obtaining environmental permits, purchasing right of way, and working with utility companies to relocate their facilities.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

As designed, the project will have some adverse impacts to critical habitat. The impacts will be addressed by limiting some activities to certain hours of the day. Permits obtained prior to advertisement.

Impacts to Traffic

When construction begins, it is anticipated that some lane restrictions will occur. Single-lane, alternating traffic will be in place during the roadway widening and paving operation. brief road closures will be required to accommodate rock blasting.
